Daniel Molke announced as new Vice-President

GREATER SUDBURY, ON – Health Sciences North is proud to announce Daniel Molke has been appointed Vice-President, Mental Health and Addictions, NEO Kids, Women’s Health and Social Accountability at Health Sciences North (HSN).

Daniel brings more than 20 years of experience in the Ontario health system, including 14 years at HSN, with a background spanning clinical practice, research and education, and progressive health system leadership. Most recently, he has served as an Administrative Director within the Mental Health and Addictions Program, where he led complex inpatient, outpatient, and regional programs and supported teams delivering care to some of our most vulnerable patients.

Severe respiratory season, community outbreaks, regional demand putting pressure on HSN

GREATER SUDBURY, ON – Health Sciences North (HSN) is experiencing significant pressure and increased wait times as hospitals across Ontario and the country face a busy respiratory and flu season.

HSN is seeing higher demand in its Emergency Department (ED), with patients presenting with cold and flu symptoms, injuries from slips and falls, heart attacks, and other traumatic injuries. On most days, by 7 a.m., more than 20 patients are waiting in the ED for an inpatient bed. That number has more than doubled in recent weeks.

Hospitals across Ontario are seeing respiratory, COVID-19 and flu-related hospitalizations increase rapidly.

At HSN, we are seeing increases in the number of patients coming to our emergency department which may mean longer wait times.

If you are coming to HSN for care, please be kind to our teams. They working very hard to provide the best care possible as quickly as they can. Your patience goes a long way.

Cousineau Family and OCP Construction Make Transformational $5 Million Gift to Expand Pediatric Care

"Families in Northeastern Ontario deserve high quality care close to home. No one from Hearst, Timmins, or Sudbury should have to travel up to ten hours for an appointment they should be able to receive here," says Christine Cousineau of OCP Construction Supplies. "My family has supported HSN before, donating to NEO Kids since 2020. I'm so proud we are doing so again."

This commitment to regional care is being backed by action. HSN and the HSN Foundation are proud to announce a transformational $5 million donation from OCP Construction Supplies and the Cousineau family to expand pediatric care across Northeastern Ontario.

HSN 50/50 donors power breakthrough research that is saving lives in Northern Ontario

Thanks to the generosity of HSN 50/50 supporters, Health Sciences North (HSN) and the Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) are driving forward life-saving research that’s changing the future of care for patients in Northeastern Ontario.

This year, the Health Sciences North Foundation (HSNF) Board of Directors approved $300,000 in research funding to support nine innovative projects led by HSNRI scientists and clinicians. These studies, made possible through community support of the HSN 50/50 Cash Lottery, are helping to improve early cancer detection, reduce side effects of treatment, and develop better tools for predicting patient outcomes.

Project SEARCH HSN helps students prepare for the workforce

An international program that helps students who require additional support prepare for the world of work is in its fourth year in Greater Sudbury thanks to an ongoing partnership between Rainbow District School Board, Health Sciences North, the City of Greater Sudbury and March of Dimes Canada.

Certificates of Internship were presented to the current group of Project SEARCH HSN participants during a signing ceremony at Health Sciences North on September 24, 2025.

A transition-to-work program that combines classroom instruction with hands-on training, Project SEARCH helps students in their final year of high school develop skills required for employment.
