Health Sciences North (HSN) Sudbury Outpatient Centre has been named a 2026 Top Energy Saver by Greening Health Care, a program of the Climate Challenge Network.
The Top Energy Savers Award recognizes hospitals that achieved the largest year-over-year reductions in total energy consumption in 2025. This recognition reflects the commitment and efforts of our Facilities and Operations teams, with support from colleagues across the organization.
Several energy-saving initiatives were launched beginning in May 2025, including:
-
Installation of motion sensors and timers on most floors, with lighting timers set from 10:05 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. during overnight hours.
-
Replacement of five 1,000-watt bulbs in the Boiler Room with energy-efficient LED lighting.
-
Additional fan scheduling during unoccupied periods.
These initiatives contributed to a significant reduction in electricity consumption:
Beyond reducing utility costs, these efforts are helping lower greenhouse gas emissions and demonstrate how operational improvements can make a meaningful difference across our organization.
Thank you to our Facilities and Operations teams and everyone who contributed to this achievement. This award is a great example of what we can accomplish when we work together toward a more sustainable health-care environment.
