Oral Maxillofacial Prosthetics

The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic at HSN is a full-service clinic offering specialized prosthetics for patients with extensive oral defects due to cancer, birth defects or self-trauma. Intraoral maxillofacial deformities are corrected by using prostheses to replace lost structures, improving quality of life for patients in both day-to-day functioning and social situations.

The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Clinic at HSN is the only program north of Toronto offering access to care services for patients of the North.

  • Pre-surgical patients with tumors that may require surgical splints, obturators, speech bulbs, palatal-lift prostheses or mandibular extension prostheses.
  • Patients requiring a second opinion or those whose physician, dentist or allied health care professional may need advice or help with treatment planning.
  • Our prosthetics team provides care and service to people requiring prosthetics after oral or facial surgery or before undergoing head or neck radiation.

The cost of dental rehabilitation especially with implant-retained prostheses can be prohibitive. In Ontario, there are 2 programs that patients may utilize to assist in this regard.

The Assistive Devices Program (ADP)

The Oral and Maxillofacial Rehabilitation Program (OMRP)

These funding programs are available to certain providers in cancer centers.
