Ambulatory Care Services (ACU)

The Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) consists of two distinct areas where patients see their surgeon and receive interdisciplinary care (i.e. Orthopedic Technologist, nurse specialized in wound, ostomy and continence care, medical photographer), assistance with a procedure or post-operative care.

Patients are seen in an outpatient clinic setting.  You do not stay overnight.

Please bring a current list of your medications and your health card each time you come to the clinic. Your first step will be to register and then you will see the specialist.

ACU1 provides support to the following services:

  • Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT)
  • General surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • Vascular services

Your specialist will arrange for your ACU clinic visit.  You could be here for a conversation and next steps or to have a minor procedure.

ACU2 provides support to the following services:

  • Orthopaedic
  • Plastic surgery services

Your visit could have been arranged by your specialist or through an Emergency Department for urgent care (fractures).

You will  need to have a COVID test prior to seeing your ENT doctor if the doctor plans on using a scope to look inside of your nose and throat.   The COVID assessment Centre will contact you to schedule the appointment as close as possible to your ACU visit.

If you become a surgical patient after your ACU visit the team will arrange for a COVID test to be completed before your surgery date.
