Palliative Symptom Management Clinic

Our clinic helps adults to live with the symptoms and stress of a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.

This type of care is also called palliative care.

Palliative care prevents and eases suffering to improve your quality of life. The focus is not on cure, but on treatment of your symptoms. We help people make decision and changes that will make living easier. We specialize in the unique health care needs of people and families of people who are living and dying with life-threatening cancer.

Our team includes:

  • Family doctors who specialize in palliative care
  • Registered urses
  • Advanced practice nurses
  • Clerical and other allied health care workers such as Registered Social workers and  Registered Dietitians.
  • We provide care at the Cancer center, and help coordinate care in hospital, hospice and patients homes.
 

Our team provides, pain and symptom control, emotional, social and spiritual care to patients and families that respect individual cultures, values and beliefs. We teach people about their end-of-life options and goals and encourage patients and families to make informed choices. We encourage you to ask questions about your care and make sure your decisions and choices are heard. We also offer support and care for those who grieve.

 

Once a referral is received from either your oncology team, primary physician, nurse practitioner or surgeon, we will contact you with an appointment.

It is never too early to start palliative care, you can see the palliative care team while you are still receiving other cancer treatments like radiation or chemotherapy.

You may want to see us if:

  • Your pain or other symptoms are not under control.
  • You need help understanding your situation.
  • You need help organizing your care.
