Registered Dietitian Erica Dubois is known for her enthusiasm, compassion, and commitment to mentorship — qualities that have not gone unnoticed.
Erica has been named a recipient of NOSM University’s 2024–2025 Preceptor Award for Commitment to Clinical Education.
This award recognizes a preceptor who demonstrates outstanding dedication to the education of health sciences learners in Northern Ontario, acting as a consistent supporter, mentor, and champion of clinical education.
“I was surprised to be nominated, but it’s really meaningful to be recognized,” Erica said. “Precepting students is something I truly enjoy. I had a positive experience going through the program myself, so I’m passionate about giving back. It’s such a valuable opportunity for hands-on learning — it really set me up for success in my own career here at HSN.”
In just three years as a registered dietitian, Erica has already mentored three NOSM students, allowing them to shadow her and engage directly in clinical practice. Through these experiences, students build skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of patient care in a real-world setting.
NOSM praised Erica for her unwavering support of learners, noting her ability to create meaningful, high-impact opportunities that align with both curriculum goals and clinical realities. Her commitment not only strengthens the learning experience but also contributes to improved outcomes for patients.
“Erica is a strong advocate for evidence-based, hands-on education,” said NOSM. “She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure learners are supported and challenged in ways that prepare them for their future roles in healthcare.”
Erica credits her success as a preceptor to the mentorship she received during her own training.
“We have an amazing team of dietetic preceptors here, and the lessons they teach are so valuable,” she said. “As a recent graduate myself, I have a strong understanding of the curriculum and what students need to achieve — that’s helped me support them effectively.”
Denise Raftis, Dietetic Practicum Lead and Assistant Professor at NOSM University, expressed her appreciation: “We are incredibly proud of Erica’s accomplishments and grateful for the dedication she brings to the Dietetic Practicum Program.”
Erica received her award at a celebration and dinner held on May 9 — a well-deserved recognition for a passionate educator who is shaping the future of healthcare, one learner at a time.
