About the POGO Clinic

The NEO Kids and Family Program at Health Sciences North is proud to be a satellite site for the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) allowing care close to home. The POGO Satellite Program is a networked, shared-care system based on a partnership between Ontario’s tertiary hospitals (hospitals with childhood cancer programs such as CHEO, SickKids, London Health Sciences, Hamiton Health Sciences) and Satellite Clinics.

POGO champions childhood cancer care by providing programs and services for children with cancer and their families, from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship.

The tertiary hospital will coordinate a meeting with the program coordinator prior to your child’s discharge. The program coordinator will contact you to arrange your child’s first visit to the satellite clinic.

Please bring your child’s health card and a list of all medications and doses. It is a good idea to bring any special objects to comfort your child and help with any wait times. This will help make your child’s visit as comfortable as possible.

Our clinic offers the following services:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Blood/blood product transfusions
  • Follow-up care
  • Consultations
  • Education
  • Central line care
  • Blood specimen collection
  • X-ray, ultrasound tests, and CT scans
  • Medication administration
  • Supportive care (e.g., management of fever/neutropenia and dehydration)
  • AfterCare Clinic: POGO’s Provincial Pediatric Oncology AfterCare Program provides follow-up for childhood cancer survivors. POGO AfterCare Clinics promote health and health education, and monitor survivors regularly for long-term effects from cancer treatment, identifying these effects as early as possible. Ultimately, the clinics contribute to advances in cancer care; if a particular form of treatment is found to cause a certain long-term effect in cancer survivors, current treatment practices can be modified to improve long-term outcomes of future survivors.
