About Our Team

The Children's Treatment Centre has a range of healthcare disciplines that may work with your child.

Our Team

The SW’s role consists of offering counseling and support services for the children, youth and families that we serve, such as:

  • psychosocial assessment to determine the needs for the child and family in order to help access services
  • short term counseling sessions for children and families dealing with a new diagnosis
  • assistance in the transition plan for children starting school or teens transitioning to adult services
  • parent education/discussion groups
  • assistance with completing applications for funding for access to various services
  • collaboration with other community agencies to ensure that a child’s needs are being met

OTs support your child’s participation in everyday activities at home and school. They work with children, families, daycare providers, and teachers to assist children in the following areas:

  • upper extremity function (arm and hand skills)
  • play, fine motor, and visual motor development
  • dressing, feeding, bathing and toileting
  • self-regulation or sensory processing challenges that are interfering with other daily living skills
  • recommendation of equipment needed for accessibility, self-care, self-regulation, and participation in the classroom

OTs also work with Rehabilitation Assistants who carry out therapy plans under the supervision of the therapist where applicable.

Pts focus on the areas of gross motor development including strength, balance, coordination and motor planning skills. PTs work with the family and other caregivers to incorporate exercise and activity suggestions into the child’s daily routine in order to:

  • help achieve milestones such as rolling, sitting, crawling, standing and walking
  • increase strength and endurance
  • stretch tight muscles
  • develop balance and coordination skills
  • improve their walking pattern
  • foster independence and increase participation in daily activities

PTs also work with Rehabilitation Assistants who carry out therapy plans under the supervision of the therapist where applicable.

SLPs focus on difficulties in the areas of speech, language and/or communication as well as feeding and swallowing including but not limited to the following:

  • vocabulary and sentence structure
  • speech components such as articulation and dysfluency (stuttering)
  • overall communication which includes the effectiveness of the child’s communication attempts
  • feeding and swallowing skills with a variety of foods and textures

Activity suggestions may be provided to promote speech and language, foster more enriched communication and increase participation in daily activities and routines at home, school, daycare and in the community. SLPs also work with Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDA) who carry out therapy plans set out by the therapist.
