Patient Advisor on the CEO Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) since September 2018

I am happily retired after a 34-year career in banking and enjoy living on the lake in North Bay.
 
After my cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2013, I was open to sharing and very interested in knowing if my experience could help increase the patient voice in cancer care. I was also interested in finding out more about how our healthcare system works for all cancers, from diagnosis to follow up.

I’ve given input as a member of Cancer Care Ontario’s (CCO) Patient Family Advisor Council and am now part of the CEO Patient Family Advisory Council. Through my work with CCO, I continue to be involved in a number of specific projects as the patient voice.  I was proud to be their patient speaker at the 2018 Spring Planning day.

I had one diagnosis in 2013 and a second one in 2017. From the first diagnosis to the second I saw changes in more collaboration and communication between me and my doctors. I see that continuing to evolve with patients being more informed and included in their treatment plan and follow up is important and will continue to offer my voice.
