Patient and Family Advisor on the CEO Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) since September 2019

I am a member of the Sudbury Seniors Advisory Committee as well as the Elder Abuse Network. I am also a Board Member with the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth (SACY) and a founding member of TgInnerselves (the Sudbury based transgender support group). As a Patient Advisor my focus will be to advocate for the proper comprehensive care for those that are elderly and face mobility and mental health challenges, as well as for the proper care, treatment, confidentiality and identity of transgender patients, especially the youth.

I plan to be very involved with patients’ rights, processing, identification and care to assist HSN in living up to the highest standards and ensure that everything meets the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code. I will ensure that passive unintended discrimination and elder abuse is identified and eliminated.

The culture of health care has to change from a mechanical reactive to a proactive whole person based model. We live in a different world and time and the health care system needs to catch up. Patients are to be a primary driver and director of this evolution.

I don’t subscribe to the notion “we cannot do this because”. I look for a discussion based on “we need to do this so let’s figure out how”. I am looking forward to our work making a wonderful positive difference.
