Cardiac Amyloidosis research at HSN is helping to prevent heart failure

Friday, May 27, 2022

Heart failure is a serious and growing problem in Canada putting a significant strain on people living with the condition, their families and healthcare systems. Dr. Atilio Costa-Vitali is the Medical Director of the Heart Failure Disease Management Program at HSN. He has been studying a rare heart disorder called Cardiac Amyloidosis. This disorder is caused by protein deposits in the heart which cause the heart to stiffen and, eventually fail. Dr. Costa-Vitali and his team recently published an article in the European Journal of Medicine with the data they found through their studies of this disorder. HSN has also launched a new clinic to help detect this disease and treat it in patients early to help improve their quality of life. The opening of this new clinic prevents the need for patients to travel hundreds of kilometers to other cardiac centres in Ontario.

We want to congratulate Dr. Vitali and his team for their work!
