The Workshop – Bringing Joy to Patients in Recovery

The Workshop – Bringing Joy to Patients in Recovery

Wednesday, August 10, 2022

The Workshop is a hidden gem within the walls of HSN. As part of the rehabilitation plan for patients who have had an amputation, spinal cord injury, or brain damage, the Workshop offers a space for patients to practice their coordination and memory skills as well as regain confidence in their abilities.

“To tell you the truth, when morning comes, I can't wait for 9:00 to show up, so I can come down here. It's my best class of the day,” says HSN patient, André Parent.

Patients come to HSN from all across Northeastern Ontario to access healthcare and regain the abilities they need to thrive once they return home from their rehabilitation.

“I broke my back in a car accident, and I'm from the Sault. They don't have programs like this, so I got sent to HSN for rehab,” says HSN patient, Jakeb Parr.

The Workshop has been a part of HSN for over 30 years. The patients are not only able to practice skills as a part of their recovery, but also come away with new knowledge related to woodworking, electrical, plumbing, and mechanics.
