Health Sciences North (HSN), Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI), and the HSN Foundation are proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Chris Verschoor as the HSN Foundation Research Chair in Healthy Aging. This new role is a vital step toward addressing the unique healthcare needs of Northern Ontario’s aging population.
“According to census data, Northeastern Ontario continues to age faster than the rest of Canada,” said Anthony Keating, President and CEO of the HSN Foundation. “Dr. Verschoor is dedicated to equipping healthcare providers with the knowledge to treat older adults more effectively and to promote healthy aging. With the support of our donors, his research will help provide quality care while reducing hospital visits and allow seniors to spend more time at home with loved ones.”
Dr. Verschoor joined HSNRI in 2019 as a Research Scientist and brings extensive expertise in leveraging biological data to address age-related health challenges.
“The more we know, the better care we can provide,” said Dr. Rob Ohle, Vice President of Academic and Research Impact at HSN. “Dr. Verschoor’s appointment strengthens our research and clinical community. His innovative approach will help translate discoveries into better care for seniors across the region. We’re grateful for the continued support of the HSN Foundation and donors.”
The Research Chair in Healthy Aging is one of several positions funded by the HSN Foundation, which also supports research in cancer solutions, cardiovascular health, mental health and addictions, and Indigenous health.
The Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) is the research arm of HSN, supporting collaborative efforts among clinicians, researchers, learners, and regional partners to improve health outcomes across Northeastern Ontario.
