Dr. Mohammed Shurrab, Medical Director of Cardiology at HSN, has recently been appointed as an Adjunct Scientist at ICES’s Cardiovascular Research Program. Dr. Shurrab’s ICES-based research has been pivotal in identifying gaps in cardiovascular care in Northern Ontario, leading discussions on health equity.
In his role as HSN Foundation Research Chair in Cardiovascular Health, Dr. Shurrab’s research is focused on addressing challenges in access to care for patients with cardiovascular disease in the North, a leading cause of death for patients in this region.
As an Adjunct Scientist working with ICES North, Dr. Shurrab and his collaborators will have access to more data about regional health trends. “We know that Northern Ontarians, particularly those living in rural and remote communities, face unique barriers compared to people in Southern Ontario. The more we understand the obstacles our patients face, and why they exist, the better we can care for them.” said Dr. Shurrab.
