Celebrating Black History Month: Franzt's Journey

Friday, February 21, 2025

Meet Franzt, a passionate volunteer, dedicated healthcare worker, and proud father of three. Originally from Cameroon, Franzt and his family arrived in Canada just one year ago, embracing a new culture. He’s a permanent resident now, with his wife and kids, and together they’ve embraced the challenges and beauty of their new home.

Both Franzt and his wife are studying nursing at Laurentian University, and they both volunteer at the hospital. Franzt has found joy in volunteering, which he sees as a way to connect with people and integrate into the community. By volunteering, he not only improves his English (his first language is French!) but also practices empathy as he supports patients in different situations, always offering a helping hand.

For Franzt, Black History Month is a special time to reflect on his roots and share his culture with his kids. He and his family prepare presentations for school projects, helping their classmates understand where they come from and sharing a bit of their culture with their new friends and teachers. Franzt believes that understanding and sharing your heritage helps foster empathy and compassion—values essential to providing great care, especially in healthcare.

He encourages everyone to take time this month to reflect on the diverse cultures that shape our community. Whether through sharing food, conversation, or simply learning from each other, let's embrace the beauty of unity in diversity
