Happy Medical Radiation Technology and Imaging Sciences Week!

Meet Courtney Poeta, a radiation therapist working in the Radiation Therapy department of the Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre.

“Radiation therapy is an exciting and rewarding field to be in. It is technical but also patient focused. Every patient has a different story to share and each one is meaningful. We form connections with our patients as we are with them almost every day throughout the course of their treatment. We learn about them and their lives outside their diagnosis. The joy of seeing patients come back during their follow up appointments and seeing how happy they are to complete their treatment is one of the best parts of the job. I am proud to call myself a radiation therapist, and I hope more future students choose radiation therapy as a career, where you are committed to the lifelong journey of knowledge, compassion and understanding what this field entails, just as I am.”

Thank you to all of our dedicated medical radiation technologists, which include radiation therapists, MRI technologists, nuclear medicine technologists, diagnostic medical sonographers and PACS imaging specialists.
