National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Today is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada.

On this day, we are taking time to remember the 14 women, who tragically lost their lives in the École Polytechnique Montreal massacre 33 years ago.

As a country we mourned together and committed to raising awareness to prevent further tragedy and ensure women and children can live free from such violence.

Unfortunately around the world, women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ individual’s continue to face unacceptable violence and discrimination. Gender-based violence in Canada has also been magnified and amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021-2022 52 women lost their lives to gender-based violence in Ontario-  2 of whom called Sudbury their home.

Voices for Women has created a candle light tribute to honour these women and all women who have lost their lives to gender based violence.

If you or someone you know is experiencing violence, don’t stay silent.  We are here to listen and support you.
