TIME COMMITMENT:   
Initially, meetings will be virtual, held monthly and be one hour in length. Review of materials and follow-up work may be required, and future potential involvement in working groups.

TERM:  
1 year volunteer term, with option to renew

POSITION SUMMARY

Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking expressions of interest from across our Northeast region to become a member of an Indigenous Health Advisory Council to help guide program and service delivery for Indigenous Peoples at HSN, ensuring culturally safe and appropriate care.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide guidance and advice on evaluating current service gaps, with an aim to address and prioritize more effective methods of delivering services to Indigenous Peoples / communities
• Share Indigenous values and teachings in an effort to learn from each other and integrate Indigenous perspectives in our strategies, plans and actions
• Demonstrate a collaborative approach to decision making valuing diversity of opinion, respect, integrity and fairness that is guided by the seven grandfather teachings
• Ensure accountability to Indigenous Peoples they represent
   

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated commitment to patient, family and community centered care
• Knowledge and/or experience in Indigenous health
• Knowledge and/or experience in co-designing and co-delivering culturally safe and appropriate care
• Broad understanding of Indigenous history and cultural practices

MEMBERSHIP

Based on recommendations for consideration of members for a balanced representative Indigenous Health Advisory Council from Indigenous Partners, we are aiming to be as open and inclusive as possible within a manageable number. We will continue to work with Indigenous Partners in establishment of the Indigenous Health Advisory Council. The following membership is being requested in this call for submissions of interest:

1 Traditional Elder or Knowledge Keeper

1 Youth representative

1 Patient and Family Advisor

3 representatives of First Nation Communities or Tribal Councils

3 representatives of Aboriginal Health Access Centres (AHACs), or Indigenous Inter-professional Primary Care Teams (IIPCTs),

3 representative of Metis Councils within the Northeast

2 other representative of other organizations that primarily serve Indigenous Peoples (eg. Indigenous Child welfare organizations, Treatment Centres, Friendship Centres)
