New Procedure Introduced using HSN’s PET Scanner

Tuesday, March 19, 2024

Congratulations to our teams in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging who have introduced a new and innovative procedure using our PET Scanner to improve care for patients with prostate cancer.

By introducing a PSMA (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen) PET scan, we will save more than 150 patients in Northeastern Ontario from travelling to Toronto for this scan every year.

Our first few patients for this procedure came from as far as Timmins and the Temiskaming region.

This important work wouldn’t be possible without the support of donors from across the region who contributed to the purchase of our PET Scanner in 2019. The Northern Cancer Foundation raised $4.3 million through the Sam Bruno PET Scan Fund and from donations across our region.

The Ministry of Health also contributed $4.6 million for this purchase. Donor support will continue to benefit a growing number of patients who require care using HSN’s PET Scanner.
