Keeping You Safe: Reducing Fall Risks During Your Hospital Stay

Tuesday, June 6, 2023

We strive to keep our patients safe during their hospital stay.

Falls remain the leading cause of injury related hospitalizations among Canadian seniors. Patients admitted to hospital are at a greater risk of falling and injuring themselves because of the new environment, changes in physical health, or changes in cognitive health.

We have taken steps to ensure that patients, families, and healthcare professionals play a role in preventing falls while in the hospital. Your Fall Prevention Care Plan starts with:

  • Having your assistive devices, such as walking aids, glasses and hearing aids, are within reach
  • Wearing non-slip footwear
  • Staying active while in hospital
  • Scheduled trips to the bathroom
  • Asking for help getting out of bed and adjusting your bed height, and more

By planning ahead, we can reduce the risk hip fractures, head injuries, and early death. Learn more about Fall Prevention and Injury Reduction by visiting hsnsudbury.ca
