"The Future of Health Care for Seniors in Ontario" - September 19, 2013

“The Future of Health Care For Seniors In Ontario” is a free, public summit being hosted by Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord, Thursday, September 19th, at the Steelworkers Hall on Brady Street in Greater Sudbury.

The evening begins with a Seniors Expo at 5:00 pm featuring goods and services available to seniors in the community. The Summit begins at 6:00 p.m.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Dr. Samir Sinha, Director of Geriatrics at Mount Sinai and the University Health Network Hospitals in Toronto and expert lead of the Ontario's Seniors Strategy.
  • David McNeil, Vice-President of Clinical Programs, Chief Nursing Officer, and lead for HSN’s Seniors Strategy.

The summit will feature a testimonial from a senior citizen as well as a question-and-answer session. Refreshments will be provided.

"Designing a More Seniors-friendly Health Care System" - June 3, 2013

The summit “Designing A More Seniors-friendly Health Care System” was held Monday, June 3, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at the Steelworkers Hall and featured Sholom Glouberman, President of the Patients Association of Canada and Philosopher-in-Residence at the Baycrest Centre For Geriatric Care; Dr. Janet McElhaney, HSN Volunteer Association Chair in Geriatric Research, Medical Lead of Seniors Care at HSN and Senior Scientist at AMRIC and Dr. Jo-Anne Clarke, Geriatrician, Northeast Specialized Geriatric Services

"Designing a More Seniors-friendly Community" - March 5, 2013

On March 5, 2013, Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord hosted a free public forum in the Vale Cavern of Science North called "Designing A More Seniors-friendly Community". The purpose of the forum was to explore latest trends and best practices for the provision of goods and services to seniors, in housing, architecture, urban planning, retail, and leisure activities.

Guest speakers included Eva Mazerolle, a seniors advocate in Greater Sudbury, and Dr. Janet McElhaney, the HSN Volunteer Association Chair in Geriatric Research.

Keynote addresses were provided by Kris Longston, Senior Planner, Planning Department, City of Greater Sudbury; Dr. Terrance Galvin, Director of Laurentian University's School of Architecture; and Esmonde Crawley, International Editor-in-Chief of Over 50s Housing Weekly News.
