A Breast Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to create images of the internal structures of the breast. This diagnostic test is performed by a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, and is used to detect and diagnose abnormalities in the breast.

A physician recommends a breast biopsy if a suspicious area has been detected during a mammogram, MRI or ultrasound exam. During a biopsy a small tissue sample is removed and will be reviewed by a Pathologist. This is an outpatient procedure and can take up to 2 hours to complete (depending on the type of biopsy performed). A breast needle localization is a procedure which uses mammography or ultrasound guidance and is performed when surgery is required.

Our surgical consultation service provides patients the opportunity to be referred to a breast specialist.

Patients are seen initially in our consultation clinic for the following reasons:

  • Had a biopsy and are receiving results.
  • Primary Care Provider has referred you.

Hours of operation: Monday – Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
