Addictions Care

When it comes to providing care for people who use substances, HSN is committed to ensuring we are providing and designing services that have had input by those with lived experience as well as best practices that promote safe, high quality care.

Equally important is how we provide this care. How we support individuals, whether they are actively using substances, struggling to avoid using, or recently relapsed and in withdrawal, has a lasting effect on their care experience and the future success of their treatment while in hospital and beyond.

Together, through a philosophy of Harm Reduction, HSN is committed to supporting patients with substance use issues while they are in hospital or receiving treatment in any of our outpatient services.

The Addictions Medicine Consult Team (AMCT) works with patients who are admitted to hospital for a medical or mental health reason and who may also be using substances. The goal is to make sure patients receive the care they need for the medical reason they have been admitted for, while also being supported with their substance use while in hospital.

Care we provide

If you have been admitted to the hospital for a medical or mental health reason and you also use substances, we can help and support you. This can include complicated withdrawals, cravings, opiate replacement therapy, treatment planning and harm reduction education. Our team can also refer you to other addictions support services as well as other local community treatment services.
